The One Track Mind (SATIRE)

Gabriel Levi

Dear Beacon Family,

I am writing to you all because I am having a problem with the utmost severity. I don’t think I can care about more than one thing at once! It’s like suddenly whenever I’m mad about something, I can only think about that topic. Dr.Tischolls, a Harvard professor of Neurology, says that it’s because ‘It’s hard for developing teenage minds to focus on more than one thing,’ but I think that it’s just because I’m dumb. I was on the other day scrolling through, minding my business, and I saw that coronavirus was trending. I suddenly got upset that people only care about , but refused to see all the other issues with life. What about Climate Change? What about the dead reanimating and walking amongst us? My mommy dearest, Sonya Levi, says that ‘I ain’t afraid of no ghost,’ but I am! If I had it my way, I would focus on one issue and one issue only, but that’s not how the world works. The world is full of complex issues that require deeper thinking to assess and I can’t take it! I don’t understand why everything has to be so complicated. I want to be mad about one thing, and now I have to be mad about everything else? My therapist, Dr.Thompson, says that ‘I think too much about things,’ but he will never understand what it’s like to have a one-track mind. I cry myself to sleep at night over my lack of diverse thought and it haunts my every waking hour. It scratches at my mind like a drug that I don’t know how to get rid of. Send help! ASAP!

Best Regards,

A Confused teen (Gabriel Levi)
